Our school year (which follows the Newton Public Schools' calendar) is divided into seven 5-week terms. These sessions register on a first-come, first served basis. Our classrooms are specially designed for kids of all ages—with adjustable tables and chairs, kitchen tools that are safe and user-friendly, and a warm and welcoming environment.

Fall III begins the week of Nov 17( skips the week of Nov 24:Thanksgiving week) and continues through to Jan 9 (Skipping the week of Christmas and the Week of New Years)
During each term, we offer classes for kids in four specific age groups from 3-15. The age ranges for the classes are:
Fall III Sessions: I Made Dinner!!: Mondays 1:30pm | Tuesdays 1:30pm | Tuesdays 3:30pm
Pre-school, Adult & Child Format. In this hour long workshop, children work with an adult caregiver (mom, dad, grandma, nanny) and execute simple dishes that are quite delicious. If you think a 3 year old can't do anything more than make a mess in the kitchen, think again! Children learn how to make wonderful sandwiches, soups, baked goods, and enjoy bonding time with somoene they love. Kitchen safety (food handling/knife use) knowledge is instilled in these students, and the concepts of "mise en place" (everything in its place) begins to grow.
Fall III Sessions: Global Kitchens!: Tuesdays 3:30pm-5pm | Fridays 3:30pm-5pm
The 6-9 year olds are ready for the next challenge. Working independent of their care giver, these children learn measuring math, mixing, and basic food science. These classes are 90 minutes long, and as knowledge and confidence grow, you see these students using their reading and communications skills while working directly with our chef instructor.
Fall III Sessions: Road Trip Across America: Mondays 4:30pm-6:30pm | Wednesdays 4:30pm-6:30pm
Our 2 hour 9-11 classes introduce kids to cuisine outside of their comfort zone. We travel the world, learning about new cultures. Everybody eats, so let's learn what is popular and traditional from France, Italy, Thailand... wherever! More food science, more refined knife skills, more time working at the stove and these young chefs are totally on their way to making Julia Child proud.
Fall III Sessions: Around the World Specialties!: Mondays 4:30pm-6:30pm | Wednesdays 4:30pm-6:30pm
"Whatever" seems to be the mantra of the tween and teen set. "Awesome" is what we try to get them to say at Create a Cook. These are two hour long classes, we examine classic cooking techniques, celebrity chef signature recipes, a lot of food science and instill the spirit of culinary distinction into the students. Students tend to be up to the age of 15 or 16 in these sessions but we are open to hearing from you if your older teen is interested.
$240 per session. When there is a school holiday on one specific day of the week (ie: MLK Jr. Day, Yom Kippur, Veteran's Day etc...) that day is impacted but not all the other days in the week. If there are 4 sessions in a series the price is $192. You can join a series part-way through the 5 weeks if you want, and we will prorate the price for the classes you've missed.
If you need to miss a class, there is no refund for that class. You are buying a session, not 5 individual classes. We sometimes can offer a make-up session during the week (ie: if you KNOW you will miss your Friday class, and there is space in the Wednesday class) ... we will do our best to accomodate you. Please be aware of this when you are buying into a session. Look at your family calendar carefully to evaluate conflicts. If there is only one session in your age group, we cannot offer a make-up session.
If you are going to be more than 5 minutes late, please call our office. If you are not going to be in class, please call the office so the instructor does not set up for your student. 617-795-2223. We worry if you aren't here that maybe you had an accident... it's the mom in us.
We understand traffic happens (boy do we ever). But please make your best effort to be on time for classes. The classes are designed in a way that the content of the class fits into that specific time frame. 20 minutes late to a class throws all the cooking time off, the prep time, and the instruction time.
