Summer Vacation

Summer 2014 is coming!

At long last, here are the dates, themes and links to the different programs we're offering for Summer 2014.

 

Every year seems to get better and better. Whether you've been with us many times or this is your first summer, we hope you love spending a week with us at CAC. Your parents will love you for it because you're going to cook some amazing food and bring it home to them!

We offer programs to two age groups. 11+ sessions run "all day" from 9:30am to 3:30pm. Our 7-10 year old programs are half day, with a morning (9:30am-12:30pm) or afternoon (2pm-5pm) option.

Weeks 1-7 and week 11 have programs for 11+ and 7-10 year olds. Weeks 8-10 are for 11+ years only.

Summer 2014 Dates, Themes, Descriptions

Week 1 June 16 Hungry Planet
7-10yrs AM Session | 11+ PM Session | 11+ years
Start the summer camp season with a run round the Big Blue Marble. Explore new cuisines, or revisit old favorites in a new way. This week is a celebration of culture, tradition and heritage from so many global food headquarters. Enjoy this International Festival of Flavor!

Week 2 June 23 Master Chefs
7-10yrs AM Session | 11+ (half day session from 2:00 - 5:00) | 11+ years  (9:30 - 3:30)
Inspired by Chef Gordon Ramsay, we plan turning your young chef into a Master Chef. The week will focus on the traditions of the proven Masters like Julia Child, Jacques Pepin and many others. Without all the TV drama, but with all the delicious food.

Week 3 June 30 Grandma's Kitchen
7-10yrs AM Session 11+ PM Session (half day session from 2:00 - 5:00) | 11+ years (9:30 - 3:30)
Hearken back to the days of your childhood while you are IN your childhood. We will focus on family-style dishes that echo the dishes of your Gammy, Grandma, Nana, Nonni, Mormor, Imma or whatever loving name you use for “Grandmother.” Home and hearth, hearty and delicious:  the stuff tradition is made of.

Week 4 July 7 Flour, Butter, Sugar & Eggs
7-10yrs AM Session | 7-10yrs PM Session | 11+ years
Celebrate the four major components of the best baking week. We will be building confectionary delights, tasty treats, and delicious desserts. There will be some savory “main dish” items but this week you’ll revel in the sweet side of life.

Week 5 July 14 Cooking 101
7-10yrs AM Session | 7-10yrs PM Session | 11+ years
Back to basics, the Cooking 101 week will focus on skill building for the new chefs and refresher content for the seasoned young pros. Different techniques will be explored from searing, sautéing, knife skills and sauces. All the recipes this week will showcase the skills your child is learning from our professional chef instructors.

Week 6 July 21 Farmers’ Market Dinners
7-10yrs AM Session | 11+ PM Session (9:30 - 3:30) | 11+ years (half day session from 2:00 - 5:00)
We are so lucky to live in New England. Our Farmers’ Markets are full of locally sourced produce and meats that we will work with to create great meals all week long. Your camper will develop an interest in Farm to Fork cuisine, and may start asking you to swing by the local markets to shop all summer long.

Week 7 July 28 Cafes, Bistros & Brasseries
7-10yrs AM Session | 7-10yrs PM Session | 11+ years
Delight in the small Parisian street side cafes, the beautiful French bakeries of the countryside. This week is all about France, from the big city to the rural table.

Week 8 Aug 4 Travel the Mediterranean
11+ years
The light, delicious and healthy flavors of Mediterranean dishes will be the focus this week as we sail from port to port. Travel to far off destinations like Greece, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Spain and Turkey without ever heading to Logan Airport.

Week 9 Aug 11 Dinner in the North End
11+ years
American cuisine inspired by the eateries of Italy… wonderful sandwiches, great salads, tremendous dishes which evoke the spirit of the small North End eatery without having to pay for parking near Hanover Street.

Week 10 Aug 18 Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice
11+ years
We’re not talking about what little girls are made of, no way! We’re talking about stuff that makes up the most awesome things to ever come out of the kitchen! Our baking weeks are popular with girls AND boys, and sometimes you’ll think it is “naughty” that we send home these unbelievable baked goods with your kids.

Week 11 Aug 25 Italian Family Feasts
7-10yrs AM Session | 7-10yrs PM Session | 11+ years
Imagine the farmhouse table all set up. The platters set out Family Style and filled with handmade pasta, hearty sauces, sumptuous meats, delectable desserts and wondrous sides. From the Italian Alps all the way down to the end of the Heel of the Boot we will eat like Italians eat.
